ing Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Sports Day, which brings together military teams from various barracks to compete in different sporting disciplines, including netball.
Speaking in an interview, tournament organiser Dan Nyirenda said the inclusion of Kia Sisters follows the team’s consistent and impressive performances, positioning them as a strong competitive side.
“As we prepare for the MDF Sports Day, we found it important to organise a preparatory tournament that will help strengthen our teams. Kia Sisters have demonstrated strong performance and discipline, and competing against them will provide the level of challenge needed to sharpen our squads,” said Nyirenda.
KIA Sisters Head Coach Kelvin Wahera has welcomed the invitation, describing the tournament as a timely and strategic opportunity to assess the team’s readiness ahead of upcoming competitions.
“This tournament provides a competitive platform for us to evaluate our combinations, assess player performance, and identify key areas for improvement. Facing teams such as Lioness, who compete at elite level, will offer the intensity and match experience we need as we prepare for the FDH Netball League,” said Wahera.
He further noted that involving both the senior and reserve squads reflects a deliberate focus on squad development and depth building.
“Our approach is centred on growth and continuity. Exposing a wider pool of players to competitive match situations allows us to build cohesion, improve decision-making under pressure, and strengthen overall team performance,” he added.
The tournament will feature six teams: KIA Sisters, Lioness, Mchinji Netball Team, Kamuzu Barracks MDF Joint Netball Team, Kamuzu Barracks Military Police Netball Team, and Kamuzu Barracks Netball Team.
